The Edge of Light
Na'pali Coast,Kauai,Hawaii
Over the years, I’ve photographed this stunning view looking down onto Kalalau Valley, and it never ceases to amaze me. The sheer size and jaw-dropping beauty make it hard to capture a bad photo—especially when you have perfect light like I did on this evening.
Kalalau Valley is a remote valley on Kauaʻi’s Nā Pali Coast, carved by erosion into steep cliffs and dense jungle. It was once home to Native Hawaiians who farmed taro and lived off the land in isolation. After Western contact, people gradually left due to its extreme inaccessibility.Today it’s a protected wilderness area known for being one of Hawaii’s most beautiful—and hardest to reach—places.
